The Center for Independence is a new day program designed for adults on the autism spectrum and with related disabilities.
At The Center for Independence, we know that disability does not define anyone. Our multi-tiered system of supports for adults on the autism spectrum allows us to meet each participant where they are, and help them get ready for what lies ahead for adults with autism as part of the larger community.
Our goal is to help each participant grow as a person and, based on his or her individual abilities, to be integrated as an independent, productive adult in the community, and to live life to the fullest as an adult with autism.
We offer:
Flexible Supports: Because autism represents a wide spectrum, we offer a fluid array of supports and services in our new, state-of-the art center, and in the community. As each participant gains independence, the level of supports adapts to meet his or her changing needs. This flexible continuum allows direct service supports and secondary supports to increase and decrease as needed for adults all along the autism spectrum.
Individualized Approaches: Our unique “life coaching” approach engages participants with autism based on their individual strengths, interests and aptitudes.
Community-based Learning: Although we have a beautiful new building, we view the entire community as a place to learn. We help develop skills for independence across all areas of life through community-based instruction and experiences.
We work to ensure that each person enjoys positive quality of life, learns to become as independent as possible, and does something he or she enjoys … whether it is to earn money or learn a new skill.
